PostSubject: Is this a thing?   Is this a thing? EmptyTue 07 Aug 2012, 3:40 am

I've been trying to hop back on this server ever since shortly after it was changed. The reason I haven't after this almost year was mostly due to being unable to find it whenever I checked the NWN servers, gave up after checking the whole list under every tab, and then got busy and forgot about it for a month, and repeated this process until around now. I'm starting to suspect the server's been down for a while. Just letting you all know I'd be up for hopping back in once it's up and I can find it.

Its been down, but i've been trying to get it back up! TELL NEKO THAT THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE TRYING TO REVIVE IT!

But seriously, when i mean the server to come back.. i mean as in masks of venice in...well, venice. Cause some changed the server what so ever and apparently that didnt fall in taste with so many.

But the first server was cool, and should be continously worked on, and not shelfed. >_>

so, after conversing and poking around! I have gotten the interest of many people to return to the WOD setting in venice!

Most importantly nino(vidorin) agreed to host! So we got a way to bring it up again.

So including myself, there's a few more on my msn, aswell as another contact of mine ( Puck ) who has some on his own msn list of people who would be more than excited to join this great setting.

No for those who still read these forums, its immensly important that you write your name below, for a comeback of this great server if you would still desire to play with the remains ( and future members ) of this epic community.

(still waiting on neko to give green light, but assuming more names written below would convince him to do so!)

I don't think it's necessary to return it to the WoD setting, as long as there's still good RP. If anything, I find it somewhat rude due to all the work put into the Arizide setting. I wanted to see me be wrong about my doubts about high fantasy. Of course, I won't say no to whatever brings back the server.

well on the arizide thing, i cannot say that the people i've gotten interested would still be as said interested when the "promised land" was a fangbangers paradise Razz for myself, i am all for the WOD setting, and nothing else.

also remember that the WOD setting came first, and alot of people (Playing or not) Lost their work aswell their characters, so alot of people chose to walk another direction. Now i personally would like to bring the WOD setting, and with such i could bring life back to the server, and i can guarantee all of the people i've spoken to are all great rpers, but with only extensive lore of the WOD setting. I am quite sure on the other hand that the arazide setting was quite genuine if not great. but remember the reason why people came over in the first place. - Fangbangers XD

All right, I've been hearing quite a bit of late about how much certain people want the server back up.

More than that, they want the oWoD setting of Venice, Italy, and not the City of Masks that Neko and I designed.

Here's why I'm hesitant.

Every- and I do mean every- time that Neko and I have popped a server up on NWN, we end up sitting in an empty server within a month. People are all sorts of enthusiastic for a while and then they fade away. It's stressful, not to mention annoying, to put creative work into something in response to people waving flags and cheering only to see absolutely nothing happen. People don't spur their own RP- considering how many people I had complaining that without a Storyteller they were bored...- and when they don't get personal Storyteller attention, they don't log in.

Those that do? Grind. And then complain about how hard the dungeons are.

I am understandably skeptical of this whole move to resurrect Venice. Yes, Neko did an AMAZING job of building the city. Yes, it was a very, very cool setting, and also very fun in the oWoD universe.

However.

No one tried to involve themselves in the city politics that we'd laboriously built up. There were a max of five people on at the best possible times. Only 2-3 of them would actually RP. None of them started stories on their own, and it became downright frustrating. Let's not even start the talk of 'modern,' considering the repeated requests for cars and guns. >.<

I'm thrilled that people were interested in Venice and that they recognize how damn hard Neko worked on that server. I am, however, not going to push to bring it back until I truly believe that it will NOT fall prey to the same problems that have shown up before.

I know I don't speak for everyone, but I'm an exception to most of that. It's possibly due to my consistently absurd amount of free time, but as far as I could tell, I was the guy that would be online almost all the time, regardless of whether or not the Storytellers or even other players were online. Did I grind? Very rarely, and I'm pretty sure I never got a character above 10 that way. Not once did I request Storyteller attention for purposes other than making custom races. The sheer amount of attention I saw given not only for things like that, but also for the purposes of making events happen, made me consider you extremely active, so I don't even see where those complaining people are coming from.

The thoughts on the factions were unfortunately spot on, and I have no idea how to interest players in that.

The issue of not spurring their own RP is a really complex issue to me. From a personal standpoint, my RP is completely character based. More important than the plot and setting being interesting is the characters just being there. Does this mentality result in Earth-shattering stories or even get enjoyment out of them? Not really. Though it did get at least a little problematic once next to no one showed up. But even then, there were still frequent situations where my wereraven would just chill with the dragon and the demon, or either one of them. I played for times like that. As nice and as much hard work as the plots and setting are, their primary purpose, at least to me, is to increase and deepen character interaction. I don't see how people can get much out of events if they haven't already spurred their own RP, and definitely not if they aren't willing to. If I had a point I was trying to make in this paragraph, I've either made it or long since forgotten it.

I don't care which setting we use, since I have this strange suspicion that they're just as good and equally able to cause characters to associate with each other. I just want to be able to have good roleplaying on NWN again.

Spot on! also lore mistress the events you ran i enjoyed those regardless of the difficulty ( I am eskor! ) but my whole motivation for this is simple, it did offer great envoirements, aswell rp.

To be fairly honest, Im not entirely sure what people want.

I keep hearing things from different people and You Nuwisha and Whitefire have been hanging around for awhile, Im actually still surprised you check the forums.

And about Arizide and WoD Venice, I've tried 3-4 different setting to get people to stick around I keep getting the "Bring it back, we'll play" ...and once the fall season hits everything goes to crap.
I am tired of putting work into something thats not being used, my time, Nino's time, Angel's time... and not to mention the MONEY needed to run a server constantly is another thing...

I am still far from convinced, I will still be thinking about it, but as for the moment I have no reason to bust my butt to get a module working.

And before anyone ask, No.. I will not let anyone have the module to "Host it Themselves" I've had my work stolen before on the previous White wolf server and I wont let it happen again.

I want a place with good RP that stays good, one that I can spend an arbitrary amount of free time chilling on because that's what I like doing. I am, and always have been, a roleplayer. When I'm not working, in class, or doing whatever with friends, I like to go to NWN and see whatever it offers. Unfortunately, now NWN's servers range from garbage to porn, and this is true in NWN2 as well. There are some myths of good servers, but those are only about the increasingly obnoxious zombie survival servers and the ones that have gotten so large that the time spent there is entirely waiting for an open spot and getting lost with no one willing to help. I've seen servers transition from fun times to shit over the course of a month. The one with this crowd is the only one I've seen avoid such descents for more than a year.

Will people get distracted quickly? Probably. Would it turn out like the last several times, where I'm sitting on an empty server wondering if anyone else is going to hop on that day, eventually greeted by a DM who's disappointed in a still empty server? Probably. Are these rhetorical questions helping persuade you to bring the server back? Almost definitely not. I just know that if a server is around, I will play. I will probably play more than anyone else, just like always.

I'd offer my infinite electricity and internet again, but the rationale for saying "no" and my lack of a second computer sort of make that offer worthless.

Just a little side note/obersvation. Maybe if the server just stayed unchanged for a while to give it time for people to get on see whats going on and get things going. It did seem like big overhauls or changes came often

hack and slash is getting old school! Dice system could be cool! But then it'd be pure rp in all aspects aside grinding. This is actually the one server that pvp is ok XD

There's roleplaying and then there's rollplaying. Why bother using dice period?

Because! Not everyone can be trusted to honestly roleplay. Also because the WoD system is balanced to that method of play. As is any game system really. Balance means while players can get upset they cant start attacking so easily to shift blame and point fingers. ~Shrug~ avoids tense situations. A honor systems nice, but not practical outside a group of friends...a small group

There are too many things against this. If people can't follow the "Don't be a dick" rule, then they can surely follow the "You're under arrest for murder" rule. In game actions have in game consequences, and rolling dice won't change the fact that people can do whatever they want in a roleplaying setting. Regardless of the system of dice, people can do the exact same things.

I also may have misunderstood what you're saying. The world and system of disciplines and all that jazz was already implemented a long time ago, and if that's what you're saying, everything here was completely unnecessary.
